The Superintendent of Seminole County Public Schools, without consulting the School Board, notified the county’s schools that out of state field trips would no longer be permitted after this school year. This means if a team accelerates to a national-level competition, it cannot compete. And it means so much more. As of Tuesday, April 14 at 10 a.m., no explanation had been given for the change in policy. As of about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, the school board had intervened and told the Superindendent that they would like to see the policy loosened up to allow more field trips to happen. The written policy has yet to be circulated.
If you want to see these trips continue to be allowed for public school students, sign the petition below. Please be sure to click your voter record, as we may need to mobilize at the ballot box to elect school board members who will insist that the Superintendent manage our district in a way that reflects our community’s values. Thank you for taking an interest in keeping Seminole County one of the strongest school districts in the state!
