Legislation has been filed in both the House and Senate to limit addition of substances such as fluoride to drinking water throughout Florida. What do you hope the state legislature will do?
THE SURVEY CLOSED on 3/13/2025. Results must be taken with a grain of salt, as (1) many people took it anonymously and (2) some attempted to do so multiple times and (3) my data sifting ability is limited.
- 928 responses were turned in
- 528 responders identified themselves as residents of the City of Oviedo
- Responses came from all across Florida, but were mainly from Central Florida
- Hypothetically, everyone could have fibbed about who they are and there is no safeguard against that
- 120 people took the survey without sharing enough identifying info for their votes to make an impact (according to Megan Sladek)
- A majority prefers that fluoride NOT be banned from the water supply at the state level. (NOTE: as the question was phrase, this does not necessarily mean these people want fluoride in, but it does mean they prefer the state not prevent the possibility)
- Even counting nearly anonymous responses, more people do NOT want the state to ban fluoride (487 to 419) – some of these may have been efforts at a double vote by a passionate person, so the percentages below do not use those anonymous votes in the calculations
- Of total identified registered voters
- 56% – 452 want locals to decide on whether fluoride can be in the water
- 44% – 356 want the state to ban it
- Of registered voters inside Oviedo city limits
- 64% – 338 want locals to decide on whether fluoride is added to the drinking water
- 36% – 190 want the state to ban fluoride
